From Luxury Fashion to E-Waste: The Materials That Shape My Art
Q: What materials do you use to create your sculptures?
A: Each sculpture I create begins with a curated mix of reclaimed materials and follows one of two distinct upcycling approaches: the Luxury Series or the E-waste/Upcycling Series.
For the Luxury Series, I blend authentic designer elements — such as vintage Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags, belts, assorted leathers and hardware — with pop-culture themes. These materials bring pattern, texture, and heritage to the work, elevating each piece into something both fashionable and timeless.
The E-waste/Upcycling Series draws from found objects and discarded electronics — old adding machines, typewriters, computers, circuit boards, gears, and wiring — to create organic, mechanical forms. In works like Upcycled Pegasus and Upcycled Sun King, viewers can spot the individual components that have been reimagined into cohesive art.
Regardless of the series, every material is carefully sourced, cleaned, and prepared. I verify the authenticity of designer goods, minimize waste during disassembly, and use fine wire, rivets, and archival adhesives to assemble each sculpture. Any off-cuts are saved for future builds or recycled responsibly. This deliberate approach ensures every piece is both sustainable and genuinely one-of-a-kind.
