Shadow Couture Squadron: A Wearable Tie Fighter Helmet

Shadow Couture Squadron

Explore the inspiration and process behind this piece.

Shadow Couture Squadron is a wearable TIE Fighter-inspired helmet sculpture handcrafted by Gabriel Dishaw. Part of the Luxury Series, this piece reimagines one of Star Wars' most iconic silhouettes through the lens of high fashion and sustainable art.

Constructed from upcycled black and grey Louis Vuitton materials, assorted reclaimed leathers, and metal hardware, Shadow Couture Squadron sits at the intersection of the Empire's visual language and couture design. The monochromatic palette draws directly from the TIE Fighter's aesthetic — cold, precise, authoritative — while the layered luxury materials transform it into something that belongs as much on a runway as in a cockpit.

This piece continues Gabriel's ongoing exploration of pop culture iconography, luxury goods, and e-waste — turning discarded materials into collectible fine art objects that carry both cultural meaning and craftsmanship.

Tie Fighter Inspired Helmet

Shadow Couture Squadron is a wearable sculpture by Gabriel Dishaw, inspired by the TIE Fighter helmet and reimagined with a monochromatic luxury design.

Constructed from upcycled black and grey Louis Vuitton materials, assorted leathers, and metal hardware, this sculpture furthers my exploration of pop culture, luxury design, and sustainability. The TIE Fighter helmet’s familiar form is transformed into a couture-inspired object, crafted from reclaimed materials with attention to detail and wearability.

One of the key goals of Shadow Couture Squadron was to create a piece that felt connected to the Empire’s visual language while pushing it in a more fashion-forward direction. The result is a helmet that feels like it belongs somewhere between the cockpit, the runway, and a collector’s display.
